Ok, classes are over for the day. Nothing to do but a) today's homework, b) eat dinner, c) read tomorrow's text and try to get a head start on the homework. I'm in a good place. I'm forcing myself to have perspective.
I haven't heard from the company I interviewed with yet, and I've been actually dreading hearing from them. But today I thought, if they offer me the job I'd have to choose between (a) living in the beautiful city I've always wanted to live in, close to my family with a meat & potatoes job I'm pretty good at; and (b) moving to an exciting, exotic city where my money goes farther, working at the cutting edge of my field. All in all, that's two good options; it's a pretty good place to be in. If they don't offer me the position, I'll be relieved and excited to go back to Seattle and teach. If they do offer me the position, I won't take it unless they really make it worth my while. No need to tear my hair out over it. We'll see what they offer me.
Today the teacher that knocked on my door last week to invite me to Chinese table asked me why I didn't go. I thought you said you wanted to spend time with Chinese people, she asked. I had to study for the exam the next day, I replied. And then I added, why is the activity scheduled the day before an exam? Very strange. She said she didn't know.
She did comment though, that it seems I've already lost weight, she could see it in my face. I'm sure I have. Also, my hair has grown out and I didn't shave today, so maybe it's shading and proportions that she's seeing. Either way, I'm sure I've lost weight.
This morning was hot at sunny, and with the humidity, I thought, wow, this must be what it's like to live inside a lens. I felt the light was gathering around me to burn something. About 2 pm the clouds rolled down from the north. It was still hot, but it started getting darker, and I told the teacher I thought it was going to rain. She agreed with me and I noticed she had her umbrella out on the table. I hope some freezing air blows in, and it rains all night.
